Gerard Cannito

Gerard Cannito of Jersey City passed away at Jersey City Medical Center on Sunday, January 14, 2018.  He was 56.

A lifelong Jersey City resident, Gerard was a graduate of St. Anne’s Grammar School and Saint Michael’s High School.  He was a talented athlete who played both baseball and basketball while at St. Michael’s and coached his daughter’s teams at the Pershing Field Softball League.  He was a diehard Yankee Fan who loved attending the games with his friends and family.

Gerard was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Rita Cannito and siblings, Thomas, Frank and Diane Cannito.  He is survived by his loving wife, Connie (nee Mahoney); daughters, Caitlyn and Mary Kate; sisters Catherine Swart and Patricia Milos and a large number of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention, but all dear to him.
All are invited to St. Michael’s Church, 252 9th Street, Jersey City on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 9:00am prior to the Memorial Mass which will begin at 10:30am.   There will be no viewing at McLaughlin Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Valerie Fund: “Team Nicole”, 2101 Millburn Avenue, Maplewood, NJ  07040 would be greatly appreciated.

Gerard, I still remember those days of playing basketball and baseball for St Anne‚??s school,you always had a big smile on your face no matter what. I remember in 1974 our baseball team was county champs and you had a big part in that, also I won‚??t forget when I worked at the firehouse on Lincoln St you would come over and we would talk Yankee baseball,you are gone way to soon my friend, Rest In Peace my friend.Your friend Bob Thompson

Rest In Peace Jerry. Our sincerest Prayers and Condolences. May the Lord hold him in the palm of his hands. Jerry was a proud dad , husband and friend. Jerry always had a smile on his face and was always happy. Connie, Caitlyn and MaryKate we are here if you need anything. Always keep him in your heart . He is your Angel watching over you all.
