Lucy P. Burns

Lucy P. Burns of Jersey City and Manchester, NJ passed away on January 2, 2016.  She was 90.

Lucy began her career as a Wire Equipment Specialist for Western Electric during WWII.  After the war she left to raise her family and returned to Western Electric in 1963 where she remained until retiring in 1983. She then became an assistant Purchasing Agent for the City of Jersey City.  In 1987 Lucy resigned from the City of Jersey City to pursue her Real Estate career working first at the Gordon Agency in Jersey City and later with Cross Roads Realty in Manchester.   In her retirement Lucy became an avid golfer, spending time with her dear friends perfecting her game.   Lucy was an active member of the Navy League, the Women’s Auxiliary of Community Hospital in Toms River, St. Joseph’s Church in Lakehurst and St. Mary’s Church in Jersey City.

Lucy is survived by her son, Matthew Burns, Esq.; daughter, Maureen Burns Norton and her husband, James; grandchildren Erin Bongiovanni and her husband Louis, James Norton, Jr. and his wife Robbie, Lieutenant Commander Jacob Williams, US Navy and his wife Kathleen and Olivia Burns; great grandchildren Sophia, Justin and Nicholas Bongiovanni and Sean and Evan Williams; her beloved niece Mary Kay and a host of nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention. 

Visitation will be at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue Jersey City on Thursday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  Relatives and friends are invited to assemble at the funeral home on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 10:00am prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at Saint Aloysius Church, Jersey City at 11:00am.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington.  In lieu of flowers, donations to either The Sandra and Glenn D. Cunningham Foundation, 30 Mall drive West, Jersey City, NJ  07310 or The Heckman Foundation, 9 Schmidt Place, Secaucus, NJ  07094 would be greatly appreciated.
