Joan B. Powers

Joan B. Powers of Union, formerly of Jersey City and South Orange, passed away on July 20th, at the home of her niece in Eatontown, surrounded by her family. Born in Jersey City, she was a long time resident of South Orange before moving to Union 5 years ago. Joan was employed by Summit Bank in the Retail Banking Division for several years before retiring.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph Karsh and Elsie (nee Willetts) Karsh. She was the wife of the late Charles Powers and predeceased by all of her siblings; Robert, Edward, Linda Karsh and Patricia Mohlmann. She is survived by her children, Charles Powers and Theresa DiRocco and her grandchildren, Michael DiRocco and his wife Vanessa, Rosemarie DiRocco, James Jackman, Gabriel Burwan, Charles Burwan, and Heather Powers. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joan was a wise, strong, and independent woman. Well loved by her grandchildren, who often referred her as "the glue that kept the family together". She was also an avid Jeopardy fan.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 4-8 PM at McLaughlin Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30 prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church at 9:30. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
