Lai Jee Mark

Lai Jee Mark, 78, of New Providence, New Jersey, passed away Friday, October 29, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services in New Providence.

Mrs. Mark was born in Taishan City, in the province of Guangdong, China on April 8, 1938 to her late father and Annie Lee.  She was formally educated up to the eith grade.  After her father passed away when she was young, her mother remarried and immigrated to the United States.

She went to live in Hong Kong with a family friend where she took lessons to learn English. When she was eighteen, her mother arranged her marriage to Robert E. Mark, who was Chinese and an American citizen. She flew by plane to Vancouver, Canada. From Vancouver she took the train to Toronto, Ontario. She married Robert Edward Mark in Toronto and then immigrated to the US.  

She and her husband owned a small laundry business in Wilmington, Delaware for several years. From 1970-1988 they owned and operated a family Chinese restaurant in Binghamton, New York. They retired in China in 2000 and lived there until 2006. They moved back to the US and lived in Richmond, Kentucky. When Mr. Mark passed away in 2015, she went to New Jersey to be close to her family.  Mrs. Mark is survive by her daughter, Cindy Chen (Michael Chen); her son, Robert G. Mark (Helen He); brother, Peter Lee (Lai Oi); two Half-brothers, Arthur Lee (Jo Jo) and Raymond Lee; her sister, Ling Yi Chan; her brother-in-law, Stanley J. Mark (Sharon Rivendson-Mark);her sister-in-law, Catherine George (John L. George);her five grandchildren, Marie Chen Nguyen (Alan Nguyen), Andrew Chen (Jordan Thomas), Laura Chen, Maggie Mark and Madeline Mark; her great grandson, Oliver Nguyen; her five nieces, Martina Burger, Helen Corral ( Raymond Corral), Suk Man Chan, Siu Man CHan, Rachel George; her six nephews, Joseph Lee, Derek Chan, Peter Douglas George (Tia Fritz George), John Christopher George ( Marnie Bigner George), Louis Mark and David Mark. 

Visitation and the funeral service will be at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ .
