Peter J. Calvanico, Sr.

Peter J. Calvanico, Sr. of Hoboken, formerly of Budd Lake and Jersey City passed away at his home while surrounded by his family on Monday, November 21, 2016.  He was 89.

Peter served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Saint Paul in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  Peter was a 31 year veteran of the Jersey City Fire Department where he was last stationed at Ladder Co. No. 7 on Lincoln Street before retiring in 1988.  A family man who devoted himself to his wife and son, Peter also worked as a Locksmith for Parent Door and Hardware in Cliffside Park and also owned the former Barrel Tavern on Bartholdi Avenue in Jersey City.  He was a Yankee fan who enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and spending time with his family.

Peter is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret (nee Monckton) Calvanico and his siblings, Tony, Carmine and Silvia.  He is survived by his son Peter J. Calvanico, Jr., JCFD and his wife Tracey; granddaughter Corrine Calvanico and sister, Rose Scarpa.  

The wake will be at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ  07306 on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Relatives and friends are invited to assemble at the funeral home on Monday, November 28, 2016 prior to Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Jersey City at 10:30am.  Entombment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. Donations in his memory to the New Jersey Fireman's Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ  07005 would be appreciated.
