Ruben Laboy, Sr.

Ruben Laboy Sr., 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Jersey City, on Friday, December 1, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family.

Ruben was born on September 4, 1933 in Guayama and was raised in Alto Rey, Puerto Rico.   In 1952, he joined the United States Army to serve his country and was stationed in South Korea.  In 1955, Ruben returned home to marry the love of his life, Rosa Belen.  They moved to New York City in 1956 to start a family.  Ruben moved his family to New Jersey in 1968 and has lived in Jersey City for the last 55 years.

In his earlier years, Ruben worked as an expeditor for an export company in Manhattan, later in life he worked as a mail handler at the United States Postal Service in Secaucus NJ, until he retired.  Ruben was a faithful man of God and a congregant of the Circulo De Oracion Church in Jersey City, where he taught Sunday school.  He enjoyed reading the bible, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family.  Everyone will remember Ruben as a humorous storyteller.

Ruben will be greatly missed by friends and family.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rosa Belen, his sons Samuel (Denise), Ruben Jr., David (Tina), his daughter Noemi (Keith), his grandchildren David Jr., Jeremy, Brittany, Rosa, Ashton, Audrey and a host of loving relatives and friends.

The wake will be held at the McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 2 to 4pm and then 6 to 8pm.  A home going service to follow between 8 to 9pm.  All are invited to assemble outside of the funeral home at 9:30am on Thursday.  Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, NJ.   (No viewing Thursday morning)

Here are some special memories shared by family and friends.
I so share your pain. I just lost my Dad in June and Noemi helped me through that process. I hope I am the same comfort to her. Please find peace in the comfort that comes from the memories that this wonderful man has given you. And please find peace in the God of all comfort (2Cor.1:2,3) that offers you the hope of seeing him once again. Acts 24:15.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Sra. Laboy, Sammy, Ruben, Naomi, David, families and friends. I'll always remember Sr. Laboy as a doting father, a quiet man always reading his Bible. He lived a good long life and was blessed, and although he will be missed the memory of him will be forever etched in our hearts and minds as I saw him as an example of a true Christian man of faith. May the peace and love of Jesus Christ be with you all. God bless. 1 Corinthians 13. Love always Sister Marilyn
