Joseph Victor Remy

Joseph Victor Remy died peacefully Friday morning, January 20, 2017 at his home in Jersey City. He was 81.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years Bestine Amos Remy, five children: Joyce, Raymond, Victor, Victoria, and Amos, twelve grandchildren: Steven, Joseph, Thomas, Raymond, Victor, Zachery, Dana, Alex, Joseph, Jadyn, Javier, and Johnathan, and an array of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In St. Lucia, he leaves behind his eldest son David and four grandchildren.

Joseph was born September 27, 1935 to parents Magdaleine and Francis in the city of Castries, St. Lucia. As a young boy, he was interested in working with cars and trucks. He drove the Shell & Texaco trucks and also worked as a mechanic. In 1959, Joseph decided to leave his home in exploration of new opportunities. He left St. Lucia and went to London, England. There he worked as a blacksmith and a mechanic. When he settled in England, he sent for his love, Bestine. They had two children. In 1963, Joseph continued his journey and came to America. Once in America, Joseph worked for the Ford Company and New Jersey Transit as a mechanic and a bus driver. He was a very hard-working man who always took care of his family.

In 1965 he sent for Bestine to come to the United States. The two were happily reunited. Bestine and Joseph settled in Jersey City, married, and had three more children. Joseph loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Alongside his wife, he cooked a delicious meal for his loved ones every Sunday and every holiday. He made sure everyone in his house was welcomed, fed, and loved.

Visitation will be at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to assemble at the Funeral Home on Wednesday morning at 9 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King R.C. Church at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Name Mausoleum, Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 768 Ocean Avenue, Jersey City, NJ  07304.

The family would like to express our sincerest appreciation during our time of bereavement.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory to Christ the King Church are requested.

Here are some special memories shared by family and friends.
My heart goes out to Victoria her children and the rest of the family and friends of Mr Joseph Remy. I had the pleasure to meet him for Thanksgiving once and he was very gracious, kind, and welcomed me and my daughter into his home. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. My deepest sympathies.
