Katherine Hatzelis

Katherine Hatzelis, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, passed away on February 2, 2018 at St. Joseph Peace Care Center. She was 89.

Katherine was a homemaker and seamstress working for Sylvettes of Jersey City. A lifelong parishioner of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church on Montgomery Street, she was honored by the Chapter President of the Philoptohos Society for her lifelong work. She was also a member of the Daughter's of Penelope Society. Her devotion to the church and Philoptohos was evident in her work cooking and fundraising for the worthy charities and philantropic organizations she valued so dearly. She was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed sharing her Greek culture and pride with her three grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Katherine was the wife of Nicholas Hatzelis who predeceased her and mother of Despina Hatzelis, Martha Davis and husband Joseph and Maria  Pecorelli and husband Gerald. Also survived by her loving grandchildren Christina and husband Michael, Stefania  , Alexis  and great granddaughter Arianna. 

Visitation will be at McLaughlin Funeral Home on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 2-5 PM with Trisagion service at 4:30. Divine Liturgy will take place at Evangeslimos Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church or Philoptohos Society, 661 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306
