Richard T. Hussey

Richard T. Hussey of Tinton Falls, formerly of Jersey City, passed away while surrounded by his family on Friday, June 10, 2016.  He was 83.

Born in Jersey City to the late William and Julia (nee Murphy) Hussey     Richard joined the United States Marine Corps after graduating high school where he attained the rank of Sergeant.  He was a highly decorated combat veteran of the Korean War and Purple Heart recipient.  Upon discharge he worked as a Longshoreman on the docks of Harborside where he met the love of his life, Isabella.  They were married in 1956 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her passing in 2012.

Richard joined the Jersey City Police Department in 1960 and was assigned to the 4th Precinct.  He was a member of the Emergency Service Unit from 1965 to his retirement in 1991.

He worked many years as the partner of his lifelong friend, the late P.O. James McDonald.  They both retired with numerous departmental awards.

From 1994 to 2011 he worked for Monmouth Park Race Track Security in various positions.  He made many friends there including his best buddies, Joe Helmer and Ray Cook.

He was a patron of the Eatontown Elks Lodge where he enjoyed the company of a great group of people.

Richard had a dynamic personality and was known as a great storyteller.  Wherever he was, the police department, track or family get togethers, he always commanded the room with his stories.  People would gather around and listen and laugh.  He loved all people and they loved him in return.  He had many friends in his life and they were all special to him.  In his final days he met many new friends at the Jersey Shore Medical Center and Meridian Health Care and Rehab.

Above all he was a man who loved and adored his family.  We will all miss him but never forget him.  We take great comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved bride, Isabella and that they are together again.

Here are some special memories shared by family and friends.
Richie was not only very funny, he was very kind and good hearted. Anyone that knew him, loved him. He was a loving husband to my sister and an amazing father to Lynn & Mark, his children. Best of all he adored his grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments. He will be missed. May God take you in the palm of his hand and carry you to heaven where you belong with Isabelle xxxxxx

Without the attentions of Uncle Richie (and Aunt Izzy) my childhood would be full of trips to the Steel Pier, Seaside Heights, Bronx Zoo, Wildwood, the Drive-In, every war and horror flick of the 60's, Winfield Beach summers,,,the ice cream cones and rides on the boardwalk, body-surfing in Sea Isle, twinkies, devil dogs, and ring-dings on the beach,... but it wasn't really about those places or things. It was the time he spent with us then and through our adulthoods telling stories, exchanging ideas, making us laugh 'til we cried. Priceless. RIP beloved Uncle. Love to all my cousins and their families.

Dear Lynn Vinnie Kaleigh Kyle and Karrison I'm saddened to hear of the passing of your father and grandfather. Your dad sounded so much like my dad, I miss hearing his great stories, even when it wasn't the first or second time I'd heard it. Please accept our deepest condolences on your loss. Wishing you all peace and love. Cathy & Rob
