Leonidas Evangel

Leonidas Evangel, of Jersey City, passed away on October 23, 2017.  Leonidas was born in Brooklyn but spent his formative years in Antissa, Lesvos, Greece.  He returned to the United States in 1946, then went back to Greece in 1953 to marry the love of his life, Theodora.

While in Greece, Leonidas apprenticed as a tailor, learning his trade.  Upon returning home, he worked for The Grossman Company in New York for thirty eight years.  He was past president and founder of Syllogos "Terpandros" Amerikis Society and a member of the Church Board of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church.

Leonodis is predeceased by his beloved wife, Theodora (nee Psiroukis) Evangel and his brother, Nick and sister, Chrysanthe Evangel.  He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Rindosh, (William) and son, Chris Evangel, (Lori); grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Gergory, Stephanie and Larissa and twin sister, Despina Albanes.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 4 to 8 PM with Trisagion service at 7:30 PM.  Family and friends may return to the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 AM.  Divine Liturgy will follow at Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church, 661 Montgomery St., Jersey City, NJ, at 10:30 AM.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Evangelismos Church are requested.
