Matthew J. Chilcotte

Matthew J. Chilcotte of Jersey City passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, after a long battle with lung disease.  He was 70 years old.

Matthew enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.  He was a recipient of the Purple Hear, the Combat Service Ribbon and the National Defense Medal among other medals and commendations.

Matthew worked for the Port Authority of NY/NJ at the Holland Tunnel as a General Maintainer until retiring in 2009.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and spending time with his dog, Sammy.  Most of all, he was the proudest Grandpa to "his boy" Brian.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara J. (nee Piotrowski) Chilcotte; his devoted daughter, Debra Chilcotte-Meier and her husband Andrew Meier and his cherished grandson, Brian A. Meier. He is also survived by siblings, John Biegel, Charles, Thomas, August and Anita Grunewald. He was predeceased by two brothers.

Services were conducted by McLaughlin Funeral Home and were held privately.

Here are some special memories shared by family and friends.
Debbie and family, I know your father was very loved by you, Andrew and Brian. It's so sad that he left too soon, but I know he will be watching Brian grow into a strong young man that he was so proud of already. My heart goes out to you and your family and I pray for your peace always.
